Our aims are to raise awareness about sex workers impacted by social and legal marginalization and to raise material funds for sex worker-led advocacy groups. Our awareness-raising efforts are presently focused on the rural North Bay, and any material resources collected benefit organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area as well as nationally.
Department of Justice, anti-trafficking groups, andโmost importantlyโby sex workers. The bills are not designed to effectively prevent minors from being trafficked into the sex industry and they strip away provisions that, for nearly two decades, helped adults who consensually engage in sex work do their job safely. UASO aims to de-stigmatize sex work by talking about it. Legislative efforts to prevent sex trafficking nearly always harm and punish sex workers as collateral.
When a sex worker has been incarcerated, these obstacles are even greater. This stigma makes it extremely difficult for sex workers to report violent perpetrators. Sex worker justice is an intersectional issue. Our art show features the work of ten visual artists who are also sex worker advocates. They come from all over the United States, though a few are local.
