On the outward bound journey, if I hadn't been with her, it would have been a disaster. We were escorted to the Atlanta gate where the service ended. If on her own she wouldn't have known how to get to Missouri. Unfortunately she developed a medical situation and I had to get her back to England. Delta's response: as I hadn't booked in advance my ticket would cost over two-thousand dollars.
Their supervisor listened, but basically didn't care about the circumstances. When I told her about my experience her response was matter of fact and suggested I complain about the service to the company.
I paid the ridiculously inflated fare, even though there were over 60 available seats on that flight. I also ordered the wheelchair service, why I'm not quite sure. Twenty-five minutes later we had a wheelchair. Not an easy task. I felt embarrassed for my mother as it was quite a spectacle and most undignified. A full, sincere apology would have sufficed, but the way they went about their business is dispicable. Don't fly Delta.
I purchased an economy ticket and was in Zone 3 boarding group. As I was getting ready to board with zone 3, an announcement came on the PA system stating that all those remaining who are boarding with rolling carry on bags would have to check them in before boarding. I asked Sandy the Delta Employee at the gate why and she said it was because there were no overhead bins left on the plane. She said it was a sold out flight which it was not. They took my bag and put a tag on it and took it from me without me having a chance to take anything out that I needed.
It all happened very fast. When I got on the plane, I was appalled at how many bins were empty. I have photos to prove it.
